November 2006 Newsletter
THE CANDY CANE CLASSIC
The Candy Cane Classic, our annual performance meet for all Desert Lights students Level 1 and above will be on Saturday, December 9. This is a fun meet with the emphasis on performance rather than competition. Gymnasts will perform routines that they learn in class and receive ribbons and medals, as well as a special gift designed for the meet. Family and friends are welcome to come cheer on their gymnasts - seating will be provided. Entry forms will go out this month.
THANKSGIVING VACATION

Thanksgiving vacation will be on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. Thursday students may schedule their make-up through the front desk. The gym will be open for regular classes the rest of the week, including Saturday, November 25.

GYM-WIDE EVALUATIONS
Gym-wide evaluations will be held November 27 through December 9. They will take place during your gymnasts regular class time, so regular attendance is very important. Each gymnast will receive a written evaluation of their skills, so that they will know exactly what skills need work to progress to the next level.
OPEN GYM
Open gym continues each Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00pm. This is the perfect place for your gymnasts to practice routines for the Candy Cane Classic, learn new skills or perfect old ones for the evaluations. The fee is only $5 for two hours of supervised gymnastics and fun! Don't forget Open Gym on Saturday, November 25, while you holiday shop!
GYMNASTICS ATTIRE
Proper gymnastics attire is crucial to learning. Gymnasts should have a well-fitting leotard, with or without shorts or footless tights. No baggy or loose fitting clothes, or clothes that are tight and restrict movement. It's very important that long hair be securely up and long pony tails in a bun or braided and tucked under. No jewelry is permitted other than tiny post earrings.
